With the rapid evolution of optical communication technology and the meager profit of services, equipment manufacturers have begun to re-enter the optical device business in recent years, and fiber-optic cable manufacturers have also expanded to the upstream and downstream, and the competition in the industry chain has intensified. In a tense situation, new market opportunities have been born. The history of the domestic fiber optic cable industry chain is mostly from copper to fiber, from fiber to fiber, from fiber to fiber preform. In the past ten years, China's fiber optic cable manufacturers have faced more technical challenges than market challenges. In the next decade, the pressure of technical challenges is still there, but the pressure on market challenges will be even greater.

In the past decade or so, China's fiber optic cable manufacturers are facing a situation in which the development is particularly fast when the industry is booming; when the industry is in a downturn, it faces difficulties and even crises. What is reflected behind this phenomenon is that China's optical fiber industry is seriously lacking in core technology. For example, in March 2012, a major earthquake struck Japan, which led to the reduction of production by light bar manufacturers such as Shin-Etsu Chemical Co., Ltd., and Chinese fiber-optic fiber manufacturers were unable to produce their own light sticks.

After 2012, China's fiber optic manufacturers have painstakingly invested in research and development and technology introduction of optical fiber preforms. So far, nearly ten manufacturers have mastered the manufacturing technology of optical fiber preforms, and the production capacity of light bars can meet the domestic fiber drawing requirements. Although the anti-dumping initiated by China this year has made the industry realize that there is still a big gap in the technology of optical rods from abroad, in general, the prospects for technological development are promising, and it is only a matter of time before major breakthroughs are made.
